Senate sets up committee to allocate seats, offices, adjourns for two weeks

The senate has set up an ad hoc committee that will assign permanent sitting positions and offices to the senators.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the composition of the committee on the floor of the upper legislative chamber on Wednesday.

Akpabio named Isah Jibrin, senator representing Kogi east, as chairman, and Darlington Nwokocha, lawmaker representing Abia central, as vice chairman.

“So that next time, when you come here you will speak from your seat. You will have your permanent sitting positions and you are expected to move into your offices,” he said.

“Right now, you don’t have those offices.

“The welfare committee will be composed of Isah Jibril as chairman, the vice chairman will be senator Darlington Nwokocha and we have members drawn from all the geopolitical zones.”

The upper legislative chamber resolved to send official correspondence to President Bola Ahmed that it is ready to entertain any communication from the executive arm of government.

The senate adjourned sitting to July 4 because of the Eid-el-Kabir festival that will hold on June 29.
