Petrol scarcity: Senate cuts short recess, summons Kachikwu, Baru

Senate President Bukola Saraki has directed the committee on petroleum resources to cut short its recess and convene a stakeholders meeting over petrol scarcity.

Kabir Marafa, chairman of the committee, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, said the meeting would hold on January 4.

The statement explained that the meeting was meant to address the lingering fuel scarcity “with a view to putting a complete stop to the unsavoury development”.

The upper legislative chamber also summoned Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum resources.

“The meeting which will be held in the senate hearing room 221 and its proceedings aired live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), is meant to address the lingering fuel scarcity bedevilling the nation in the last few weeks with a view to put a complete stop to the unsavoury development,” the statement read.

“The senate which is presently on Christmas and New Year break is billed to resume committee work for budget defence on January 9, and commence plenary on January 16.”
