A bill for the establishment of the North-west Development Commission has passed first reading at the senate.

The North-west Development Commission (Establishment, etc) Bill, 2018, sponsored by Jibrin Barau who represents Kano north, was reintroduced at Tuesday’s plenary session.

It was first introduced in the last senate but failed to see the light of day.

Bills seeking to establish development commissions for three other regions had been tabled before the senate before this recent one.

The latest bill was introduced a week after the upper legislative chamber passed for first reading a bill seeking to set up the North-central Development Commission.

That particular bill, sponsored by Mohammed Musa, senator representing Niger east, came after similar ones for the establishment of south-west and south-east commissions were introduced in the senate.

While Ibikunle Amosun, senator representing Ogun central, sponsored the south-west commission bill, Stella Oduah of Anambra north, sponsored that of the south-east.
