Seven people have been confirmed dead following an accident on the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Yobe state.
According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred on Tuesday when the driver of a commercial vehicle heading towards Maiduguri lost control of the wheel. The vehicle subsequently somersaulted.
Several passengers reportedly sustained varying degree of injuries.
Locals rushed to the scene to assist in evacuating the victims to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed seven deaths on arrival.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, hospital officials said those injured are receiving treatment, with some in critical condition.
In February, 10 people reportedly lost their lives in an accident on the same road.
The accident occurred after a truck conveying cement and passengers veered into a ditch.

Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson of the Yobe police command, said the truck’s brakes failed, causing it to collide with a Sharon car before crashing.
