Seven killed, many injured as ‘IPOB members’ attack Imo community

The Imo police command says seven persons have been killed and several others injured in an attack by suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Ndi-Ejezie, Umualaoma in Ideato-north LGA of the state.

A statement issued by Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson in the state, said the incident occurred on Friday morning.

Okoye, who described the incident as “barbaric and inhumane”, said the command has deployed its operational and intelligence assets to the area to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Aboki Danjuma, the commissioner of police in the state, commiserated with the families of the deceased and injured, noting that measures were in place to forestall further attacks in the area.

He urged anyone with useful information about the ongoing investigation to contact the nearest police station.

“The senseless assault, which claimed the lives of over seven persons and left several others critically injured, was described by the CP as barbaric, inhumane, and totally unacceptable,” the statement reads.

“The CP has led tactical unit for intense combing of the affected areas and affirmed that the situation is now under control, and proactive security measures have been taken to forestall further attacks and restore lasting peace in the region.

“He expressed heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives, CP Aboki Danjuma prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.

“He also extended his condolences to the bereaved and encouraged them to remain strong during this difficult time.

“The Imo State Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.”
