Seven most memorable moments at the AY Live Easter show

Seven most memorable moments at the AY Live Easter show

This year’s AY Live on Easter Sunday show was a fun way to celebrate the festive season. Eko Hotels and Suites, the venue of the show, was packed to the brim with celebrities, comedians, musicians billed to perform and fun-seeking Nigerians.

AY and his team did not disappoint the audience, as Helen Paul, Gordons, I Go Die, Emeka Smith, Princewill, Ajebo, Mcarthy, Akpororo, Uchbebe, Osama, Elenu and other up-and-coming comedians did their best to crack the audience up. There were also musical performances by Sir Shina Peters, Seyi Shay, Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid, J-Martins, Burna Boy, Presh, K.c, Ozybosco, Oritse Femi, and Davido. There were some very memorable moments of the show, but we bring you seven of them:

If no be for comedy

Speaking in his usual merry tone, the host, AY, said that “if no be for comedy,” many comedians would nowhere near their current social status. With the use of some graphically enhanced pictures, he showed the audience how these comedians would have been living.

I Go Die would have been a fisherman, Seyi Law would have been a native doctor, Julius Agwu would have been a bus conductor, and Basketmouth would have been a ‘weed’ seller.” But he ended it by saying that were it not for comedy, he would have been the president of the country. Yeah, right!

Gift giveaway

AY and the official sponsor of this year’s show, Maltina, surprised about 10 members of the audience, with gifts. These were those who had a tag at the bottom of their seats with the inscription: “Happiness is the surprise gift you will get.” And the surprise gift each of them got? A Digital Galaxy Tablet!

30 Days in Atlanta

A soon-to-be-released movie featuring Ramsey Noah, Richard Mofe Damijo, Vivica A. Fox, Lynn Whitfield and AY as Akpors was previewed for the audience. Set in Nigeria and America, the movie was filmed towards the end of Year 2013. The star-studded comic movie is something we all should endeavour to see.

Seyi Shay’s oops moment

Seyi Shay was dressed in a red short jumpsuit with a long flowing robe attached to it, which made her look more like a super-hero. At the end of her performance, she stepped out of the ring box, which served as the stage and tripped on her long ‘super-woman’ robe and almost fell to the ground, then she mumbled some statements in Yoruba as she walked away.

Video skit’s scene reacted

Ay and Helen Paul had earlier made a video skit to promote his Easter show. In the video skit, he played the role of a Prophet who performed a deliverance session on a lady (Helen Paul), possessed by an evil spirit. This was a way to mock the deliverance session performed on star actor, Jim Iyke, by Pastor T.B. Joshua        of The Synagogue Church. He also made a comment that became very controversial; he said Tonto Dikeh was overdue for a deliverance session. That comment led to a highly publicized fight between AY and Tonto Dikeh on social networking site, Twitter. In an apparent response to the skit, Jim Iyke also “tweeted” about people crossing lines. A similar scene was staged again when AY came up for another performance as a Prophet and Helen Paul a Prophetess. After making their way down to the VVIP section, they jokingly interacted with Ramsey Noah; but as they were exiting the section, AY advised Helen not to near the table where Ini Edo, Jim Iyke and Tonto were supposedly seated, to avoid a war on Twitter.

The awkward moan

Sir Shina Peters came on stage and performed his old classic, Afro Juju, which thoroughly excited the audience. Both old and young were swinging their waist to the classic song. Despite being in his late 50s, the Afrojuju legend also danced as his sang. However, it became awkward towards the end of his performance. In his bid to prove wrong someone from the audience who called him baba — he said he wasn’t — he started moaning noisily, swinging his waist and asking the audience to call out his name. We understand that age is a thing of the mind over matter; and he doesn’t feel he should be called an old man. But certain things become gross when you reach a certain age, whether you feel young at heart or otherwise.

Saka and Mr. Ibu versus Ultimate Commander, Mr. Perfect

The stage, which was actually designed as a wrestling ring box, served its purpose as there was also a wrestling match. The match was between Nigerian Heavyweight Champion, Ultimate Commander, and The Strongest Man in Nigeria, Mr. Perfect. Although Saka and Mr. Ibu were supposed to also partake in the wrestling match, they cowardly took to their heels upon seeing the real fighters. Sadly, the match failed to generate enough excitement or applause from the audience.

At the end of the show, AY spoke to NAN and thanked God for another successful edition.

“I saw the need for a sustainable and classy entertainment show on an important day like Easter that is why I have taken it upon myself to do this every Easter Sunday, so that people would be happy,” he said.
