Seven suspected cases of coronavirus have been placed under quarantine in Niger state.

Makunsidi Muhammad, the state commissioner of health, disclosed this to journalists in Minna, the state capital.

Muhammad said six of the suspected cases are in Minna and one of them returned from the United Kingdom recently while the other one is in Suleja area of the state

He said five of the six cases in Minna had contact with someone that tested positive to the virus while the one in Suleja was already showing symptoms of the disease.

“The other five cases confirmed that they had contact with someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus and was in Minna. After he was confirmed, they decided to submit themselves for quarantine,” he said.

“We know we live in close proximity with Abuja and since we cannot stop people from coming into Minna, this is the only preventive measure we can take to ensure that the spread of coronavirus in Niger state does not occur.”

Abubakar Bello, governor of Niger, had imposed a 12-hour curfew as part of measures to prevent the spread of the virus to the state.
