Troops of the Nigerian Army have reportedly killed several bandits following an attack on a military base in Babanna, Borgu LGA of Niger state.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, said the incident occurred at about 2:30am on Thursday.

Makama noted that the assailants, who were riding on motorcycles in droves, invaded the military base and began shooting sporadically.

The publication added that the area has been placed on red alert, with security agencies intensifying surveillance to prevent further attacks.

“During the exchange of gunfire, scores of the bandits were neutralised. However, they managed to evacuate most of the corpses, leaving behind one body,” Makama said.

There has been an uptick in bandit attack in the state.

In July, at least 45 bandits were killed by troops during a gun battle in Iburu village, Shiroro LGA of the state.
