Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna state, has advocated the setting up of a radio station to be used in fighting banditry in the north.
The former senator, who said this in a post via his Facebook page, said the radio should broadcast in local dialects.
His suggestion comes amid the growing insecurity in various parts of the north.
About two weeks after over 40 farmers were killed in Borno state, Boko Haram insurgents claimed responsibility for the abduction of hundreds of students in Katsina, in far away north-west.
Sani said a “powerful radio station” must be established to address the insurgents directly.
“A Powerful Radio station solely dedicated to the fight against Banditry and Terrorism need to be established in the Northern Part of Nigeria,” he said.
“And the Language to be used should be Fulfulde, Kanuri and Hausa. The Radio should fully focus on addressing the terrorists directly and creating security awareness in the rural and urban areas.”
