Shettima leads Nigeria’s delegation to World Economic Forum in Davos

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Nigeria for Davos, Switzerland, to attend the 2024 World Economic Forum (WEF) taking place from January 15  to 19.

The World Economic Forum is an international organisation for public-private cooperation.

The forum engages the foremost political, business, cultural and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by Stanley Nkwocha, senior special assistant to the president on media and communications (office of the vice-president), Shettima will be representing President Bola Tinubu at the meeting.

“At the instance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent Nigeria at the 2024 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum scheduled to hold in Davos, Switzerland,” the statement reads.

“The VP will join other political and business leaders across the world at the annual Forum to discuss global socio-economic and development issues.

“Top on Vice President Shettima’s agenda, apart from the plenary session, is the launch of the Private Sector Action Plan for African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCTA) at a special session to be co-chaired by him.”

The vice-president is also billed to hold high-level discussions with Makhtar Diop, managing director of IFC, and Pham Minh Chinh, prime minister of Vietnam, among others.

Also on the sidelines of the annual meeting, Shettima will chair a roundtable dialogue on Nigeria’s economic path and attend a special session dedicated to building trust in the global energy transition programme.

He is expected to return to Nigeria after participating in the week-long event.
