Shittu asks court to nullify Oyo APC congress

Adebayo Shittu, minister of communications, has asked a federal high court in Abuja to nullify the state congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo.

He filed a suit alongside 35 aggrieved APC members in Oyo on Thursday.

The congress which held in May produced Akin Oke as the chairman of the party in the state

In a statement on Friday, Saheed Oladele, director, media and strategy, Shittu’s campaign organisation, said the plaintiffs asked the court for a restraining order against Oke and other elected officials from parading as “validly elected.”

“The Hon. Minister of communications Adebayo Shittu and 35 other aggrieved members of All Progressives Congress in Oyo State have, through their lawyer, A.U. Mustapha (SAN) & Co., instituted an action today, the 21st of June, 2018 at the Federal High Court, Abuja seeking, inter alia, a declaration that the Court should declare null and void the state congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which led to the emergence of the chief Akin Oke led state executive of the APC as same is void having no foundation of a valid ward and local government area congresses and also an order of the court restraining the chief Akin Oke led state executive of the APC from parading themselves as the validly elected Oyo state executive members of the APC and from participating in the forthcoming national convention of the party,” the statement read.

Oladele said they also wrote to John Oyegun, national chairman of the APC, to inform him of the suit.
