Simon Kolawole to deliver lecture on ‘future of journalism’ at Unilorin

Simon Kolawole, founder and CEO of TheCable, will on July 4 deliver the 10th annual Doyin Mahmoud lecture at the University of Ilorin, Kwara state.

His lecture, ‘The Future of Journalism’, is organised by the  Association Of Mass Communication Students (AMCOS).

It is held annually in honour of Mahmoud, late veteran journalist and former head of the department of mass communication in the institution.

Mahmoud joined Unilorin in 2002.

He was the pioneer editor-in-chief of  Daily Independent Newspaper. He served as training manager at the Guardian Newspaper, after serving as deputy editor of The Sunday Newspaper.

He was also a former editor of The Herald newspaper.

Mahmoud died on September 20, 2009, at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, aged 56.

Thursday’s event will feature the launching of The Lens Magazine by the students.

A. L. Azeez, head of the department of mass communication, will host the event while Gbenja Jimoh, dean of the faculty of communication and information sciences, is chief host.

The guest speaker for the day is Yushau Shuaib, publisher of PR Nigeria. The event will be chaired by Age Abdulkareem, vice-chancellor of the institution.
