Willie Obaino, governor of Anambra, on Monday, visited markets and banks to observe the compliance with the government’s directive asking businesses to resume.

Over the weekend, the Anambra government directed transporters and traders in the state to go about their normal activities and ignore any directive asking residents to stay at home.

The Anambra directive comes after IPOB, which is seeking to secede from Nigeria, had declared a sit-at-home on Mondays, beginning from August 9, as protest against the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the group.

The group had, however, suspended the directive, but parts of the south-east have remained deserted on Mondays.

Obiano visited the popular Ajasa market in Onitsha, the Eke Awka market, as well as some banks in Awka, the Anambra capital.

The governor was accompanied by members of the state executive council.

Though some shops were closed, many traders brought out their goods to attend to customers in the market.
