Suspected members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly killed six people in an ambush along the Dikwa-Ngala road in the north-east of Borno.

According to intelligence sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert, the victims were killed on Saturday when insurgents on motorcycles shot at commuters.

The sources also said two other civilians sustained bullet wounds.

“Afterwards, they car-jacked one commercial vehicle and set on fire four other vehicles, two commercial vehicles, one empty truck, and one ferrying livestock,” one of the sources said.

One other truck was said to have hit an improvised explosive device (IED) on the road, while trying to turn back upon sighting the insurgents.

The insurgents reportedly fled the scene on sighting troops of the Nigerian Army.

In a similar incident on Friday, three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were reportedly killed in an attack by suspected members of ISWAP at the residence of humanitarian workers in Monguno, Borno state

During the attack, the insurgents were said to have abducted three employees of Damuli Investment Limited.

The counter-insurgency expert said the insurgents, who invaded the community through Marte, another Borno town, went straight to the residence of the humanitarian workers and began shooting.

They also reportedly stolen a Hilux vehicle before killing the three CJTF members.
