Martin Skrtel headed home a late equaliser to salvage a point for Liverpool against Arsenal cancelling out strikes from Olivier Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy to end the game 2-2 at Anfield in the Barclays Premier League.

Liverpool took the lead minutes before half-time thanks to a superb strike from Philippe Coutinho but it was short-lived as Debuchy scored the equaliser moments later.

Arsenal then took the lead in the second half through Giroud, before the Reds saw Fabio Borini sent off in added time after receiving a second yellow.

Despite playing with 10-men, Skrtel headed home a late-gasp equaliser for Brendan Rodgers’ side, denying Arsene Wenger and the Gunners the maximum points.

Adam Johnson’s late strike earned Sunderland a 1-0 victory over Newcastle United in a Tyne-Wear derby at St James’ Park.

With a minute remaining, Johnson fired a shot past keeper Jak Alnwick to wrap up a fourth successive win for Sunderland against their bitter rivals.

The win is Sunderland’s third league victory of the season which lift them to 14th place with 19 points.
