Charles Odii, director-general of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN), says small businesses will continue to receive the necessary support.

Odii spoke on Saturday when he was honoured with a public service award by The Sun newspaper in Lagos.

The SMEDAN DG pledged his commitment to advancing the president’s prosperity agenda through MSME growth.

He said his plan to drive growth includes providing guidance, resources, opportunities, and workforce support necessary for the rapid and sustainable growth of small businesses.

“Our belief is simple: when small businesses prosper, Nigeria prospers,” he said.

“At SMEDAN, we’re fully committed to this agenda, ensuring that the backbone of our economy, which comprises over 90% of businesses and contributes half of our GDP, receives the vital support necessary for sustainable growth.”

Odii, who was appointed in October 2023, has helped to secure financing for small businesses in the country, including negotiating single-digit interest loan deals with commercial banks, and establishing matching fund agreements with state governments.

The SMEDAN boss has also introduced initiatives at the agency to facilitate investments in emerging sectors, nurture entrepreneurial talents, and promote social equity.
