Social Voices launches gender equity reporting fellowship

Social Voices, a civic media organisation, has launched the Gender Equity Reporting Fellowship with support from the Solutions Journalism Network (SJN).

In a statement on Tuesday, the organisation said the fellowship is designed to strengthen solutions-focused reporting on gender issues across Africa.

The organisation added that 11 fellows were selected for the programme from a pool of over 80 applicants across four countries.

The fellows will receive mentorship, training, and editorial support to produce in-depth stories spotlighting how women are pushing back against systemic inequality and drive measurable change in communities, industries, and economies.

Tina Rosenberg, co-founder of the Solutions Journalism Network, noted that the fellows were selected through a highly competitive process.

“You have triumphed in a highly competitive process, and your story ideas are both illuminating and inspiring,” she said.

“I look forward to seeing how your reporting will advance gender equity across Africa, just as solutions journalism has already driven real-world change in other regions.”

Seun Durojaiye, founder and managing editor of Social Voices, said the fellowship will help elevate stories that highlight strategies and innovations advancing gender equity.

“We’ve designed a fellowship for exceptional storytellers to document and elevate the strategies, innovations, and actions that are advancing gender equity across Africa,” Durojaiye said.

“This initiative aligns with our mission to nurture a narrative ecosystem that shapes constructive debates around gender issues, influences policy, and inspires lasting change.”

The selected fellows include Lucrece Armande (Cameroon), Yecenu Sasetu, Yahuza Bawage, Sakina Ahmed, Ayo Ladipo, Olayide Soaga, Sola Abe, Audrey Galawu (Zimbabwe), Oge Udegbunam, Racheal Abujah, and Timkat Nanbol Victor.
