Ahmed Aliyu, governor of Sokoto, has hailed the court of appeal over the judgment affirming his election.

On August 26, the election tribunal in Sokoto reserved judgment in the suit filed by Sa’idu Umar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the March 18 election.

Dissatisfied with the verdict of the election petition tribunal, the PDP appealed the judgment.

On Monday, the court of appeal in Abuja affirmed Aliyu’s election as governor of Sokoto.

A three-member panel of the appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP and Umar.

The panelists unanimously ruled that they found no reason to upturn the verdict of the tribunal which upheld the governor’s victory.

Reacting to the decision, Aliyu said his victory was the “will of Almighty Allah”.

The governor expressed gratitude to the people for their support and prayers, while encouraging more suggestions and constructive criticisms for the progress of the state.

He assured the public of his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy.

Aliyu also urged the opposition to work with him for the development of the state.
