The Sokoto government says the US air strikes on Christmas Day hit terrorist camps in Tangaza LGA of the state.
The strikes, which took place late at night, were said to have targeted ISIS terrorists in the north-western Nigerian state.
The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) said the operation was conducted “at the request of Nigerian authorities”.
In a statement on Friday, Abubakar Bawa, director-general of media and publicity at the Sokoto government house, said there were no civilian casualties recorded during the air strikes.

Bawa said the impact of the bombardment could not be immediately assessed, as authorities are awaiting a full report from the joint operations team.
He also said that objects found near Jabo town in Tambuwal LGA could not yet be explained, with analysis by Nigerian and US military authorities still ongoing.
“Sokoto state welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing terrorism and cross-border crimes,” the statement reads.

It called on residents of affected areas to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information to sustain ongoing operations and restore lasting peace.
