Soldiers exchange gunfire with Boko Haram insurgents in Yobe

Soldiers and Boko Haram insurgents engaged in a gun battle at Buni Gari, a town in Gubja local government area of Yobe state, on Saturday.

Usman Buni Yadi, a resident of the area, disclosed this to TheCable, saying the battle had been on for over two hours.

“We have been hearing loud explosions and sporadic gunshot from Buni Gari,” Yadi said.

“We are really scared and can’t afford to leave our homes because we don’t want to get caught is crossfire.”

Sani Usman, spokesman of the Nigerian army, could not be contacted for comments as his telephone line was out of reach as of the time this report was filed.

Meanwhile, a female suicide bomber killed herself in an attempt to attack a civilian joint task force checkpoint at Muna garage in Maiduguri, Borno state.

She reportedly detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) strapped to her back, killing herself and leaving some people nearby injured.

Babagana Dalorima, a witness, said the explosion sparked tension among residents while Ciroma liman, a member of the task force, confirmed that many of his colleagues sustained injuries.
