Solomon Adeola, senator representing Ogun west, has urged voters in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo federal constituency to reject candidates of questionable character in Saturday’s by-election.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker, popularly known as Yayi, said the poll is a critical moment for the people to choose a worthy successor to the late Adewumi Onanuga.
He said the people of Ogun state must not derail the strong collaboration between the federal and state governments by electing a wrong candidate.
“The time has come to stand firm against individuals who are always at home with everything and anything but peaceful conduct,” Adeola said.

The chairman of the senate committee on appropriation said Remoland, which is the ancestral home of the late Obafemi Awolowo, must uphold its integrity and not be associated with dishonourable representation.
“Remoland cannot afford to soil its image by allowing persons of questionable character to become the representative and face of the people,” he said.
“The sage would turn in his grave after so many years if this should happen.”

Adeola urged constituents to support Adesola Elegbeji, the APC candidate in the election, describing her as a competent politician.
“I urge the people to distance themselves from those whose ethical values and character are totally at variance with what the late elder statesman stood for during his lifetime,” he said.
“I believe in the capacity of Princess Adesola Elegbeji to build on the good work done by the late Hon. Adewumi Onanuga.”
He added that Elegbeji’s background, experience and worldview position her to offer quality representation.

“I promise to always be available to lend a helping hand upon her assumption at the National Assembly,” he said.
Adeola also praised the achievements of Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun, noting that his track record over the last six years makes him capable of leading the party to victory in the by-election.
“Governor Abiodun is in good standing to lead the party to a resounding victory come this Saturday, as the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo are now earnestly counting the minutes to do the needful,” he said.
“The governor needs a full complement of National Assembly members from the state, and his home base cannot afford to be left out.”
