Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra, has inaugurated 12 kilometres of roads in Okpoko, Ogbaru LGA of the state.

Speaking during the inauguration on Monday, Soludo said the commissioned road is part of the 15 kilometres awarded by his administration.

He said people hitherto spent hours traversing the route due to the deplorable condition of the road, adding that it also affected commercial activities in the community.

He said about half a million people living in Okpoko do not have basic amenities, adding that the community is one of the major urban regeneration agendas of his administration.

He said the area was one of the first places he visited after his inauguration, as it had been ravaged by flood over the years.

The governor described the area as one of the largest urban slums in the south-east, adding that “the road would stimulate the economy and improve the lives of the people  of the area”.

He said the Atani-Ozubulu road, which is currently under construction, would soon be completed, adding that his administration would ensure pipe-borne water, street lights, and road networks are provided for the people.
