Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, says something will happen soon as regards the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike spoke on Monday during the flag-off of construction work in the Obio-Akpor area of the state.

The opposition party has been embroiled in crisis since the conclusion of its presidential primary election in May.

Speaking at the event, the Rivers governor said: “Anybody who knows me knows that once I have made up my mind and I believe that what I am doing is right, if you like, let the whole people team up, as far as my conscience is clear, I will do what is right at all times; it doesn’t matter any gang up.

“If you like, go and buy newspaper owners, put any story you want on front pages, I don’t even bother about it. Put stories to demonise me, it’s your business. I am not worried but you are worried. I will do the right thing.

“I have not done anything, people are crying. What happens when we do something, what will happen?

“Each time I carry the newspaper, they say ‘Wike, he did this, he did that’. I will laugh. Make them uncomfortable. Make them have sleepless nights. At the appropriate time, what needs to be done will be done. Nobody will threaten me.

“All of us should be calm. You’ve heard what is happening in PDP. Nothing has happened yet but by the grace of God, something will happen.”

The governor went on further to say good governance is not about the party but leadership and making the people happy.

“Some other people are busy putting themselves together, how they will retain leadership in Nigeria and loot the remaining one that these other people have kept. If you know what is going on in Nigeria… forget about the ones running around they want to rescue or save you, watch what is going to happen,” he said.

“I am privileged to know and at the appropriate time I will tell you who these people are.”

TheCable had reported how Wike, who travelled out of the country on Monday with his allies, — met with Bola Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Paris, France.

The Rivers governor also met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP); and Atiku Abubakar, standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic (PDP), in London, the United Kingdom (UK).

After his return to Nigeria, Wike said the meetings with the presidential candidates are “in the interest of Nigeria”.
