The Dangote refinery reduced its ex-gantry price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also known as cooking gas, to N715 per kilogramme (kg) two months ago, TheCable understands.
LPG is used for cooking and fuelling vehicles.
On Tuesday, reports had cited the refinery as increasing the price of LPG to N760 per kg.
However, top Dangote refinery sources told TheCable that the reported figure is inaccurate and that the price reduction occurred about two months ago, when it dropped from N790 per kg to N715.

“For about two months, we have been selling to marketers at N715,000 per metric tonne (MT). There are about 1,000 kg in a metric tonne. So, it gives N715 per kg,” a source said.
“So, we should be getting it for like N800 per kg. If they put their logistics, it should not be more than N800 per kg, but for middlemen price hike.”
On Monday, Bayo Ojulari, group chief executive officer (GCEO), the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, had said the recent rise in the price of cooking gas is linked to the recent strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

The price of the commodity had increased in Lagos to as high as N2,000 per kg.
Speaking on the issue, the source assured that the price of the product would soon reduce as the effect of the PENGASSAN strike wanes off.
