Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and publisher, has been released from Kuje prison in Abuja after meeting his bail conditions.
Sowore, along with Aloy Ejimakor, one of the disengaged lawyers of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), and 11 other #FreeNnamdiKanu protesters, was released on Monday.
The IPOB leader has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in 2021.
Last Friday, police charged Sowore, Ejimakor, and 11 other protesters to court for “inciting public disturbance” after they were arrested in Abuja for participating in the protest calling for the release of Kanu.

Other defendants are Emmanuel Kanu, Joshua Emmanuel, Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, Godwill Obioma, and Chima Onuchukwu.
The magistrate court in Abuja granted bail to the defendants and ordered them to present two sureties each in the sum of N500,000, alongside a verified national identification number (NIN), three-year tax clearance certificates, and passports as part of their bail conditions.
But moments after the bail ruling, security operatives reportedly bundled Sowore into a van, prompting outrage from his lawyers and supporters, who accused the police of violating the court’s order.
