President Bola Tinubu has been hailed for re-appointing Jumoke Oduwole into the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC). 

Oduwole was appointed special adviser on PEBEC alongside 17 aides, in the office of Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

A senior lecturer in international law at the University of Lagos, Oduwole held the same position in the previous administration. 

She was also the secretary of PEBEC, which was chaired by Yemi Osinbajo, the former vice-president. 

In a statement seen by TheCable on Friday, Oduwole’s appointment was hailed by investors, economic experts, and other key stakeholders.

They said the move signals the president’s commitment to continuity and enhancing the business environment in Nigeria.

Speaking on the appointment, Mohammed Abdullahi, a Kano-based investor, said PEBEC was one of the shining lights in the last administration.

“PEBEC was one of the shining lights of the previous administration. We all saw how active the council was in addressing issues constraining business and investment in this country,” Abdullahi said.

On his part, Herbert Ibekwe, an importer, said Nigeria has become a decent investment destination, with state governments and relevant agencies of the federal government competing to improve their operations.

“Which investor wants to be trapped in bureaucracies in your country when other countries are offering a variety of incentives?” he asked.

Ibekwe said investors not getting good value for money will go to neighbouring countries, but “your country’s economy would be the worst for it”.

Oduwole holds the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).

During her spell as PEBEC secretary, Nigeria moved up 39 places in the World Bank’s Doing Business rankings and was twice recognised as a top ten reformed economy in three years.
