There could be six more months of state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States following a request to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan.

His request letter was read in senate Tuesday morning.

It will have to be approved by the national assembly in line with the constitutional provision.

The state of emergency was first introduced in May 2013 and extended by six months in November last year.

Boko Haram insurgents have continued to strike since then but Jonathan says the success of the emergency rule should not be judged by that alone.

There are simple issues that solve big problems and Nigerians especially those in charge of our security- the soldiers. Tour of duty is a common phrase in a soldier's lexicon. This means that a soldier posted to Bornu on duty should be replaced after 3, 4 or 6 months as the case maybe. This would would motive and refresh the soldier to the fact that he's not being punished for what he didn't do. It will encourage them and not demotivate them. The army hierarchy should look out for the welfare of serving men and women, provide comfortable accommodation and be well fed. Even if the emergency rule were extended and the welfare of soldiers are not top priority, nothing will change in terms of winning the war.
