The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos says the dream of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on winning the state in the 2023 elections is “unrealistic”.

Iyorchia Ayu, PDP national chairman, had said the party would win 25 states, including Lagos, in the forthcoming elections.

But reacting, the APC said the reality on ground is in contrast to what the major opposition party hopes for.

In a statement on Thursday, Seye Oladejo, Lagos APC publicity secretary, said the PDP should be ready for its “impending devastating defeat”.

“Our attention has been drawn to the reckless and unrealistic claim of the opposition PDP to win Lagos and 25 other states in the forthcoming elections,” Oladejo said.

“While we acknowledge the consistency of the opposition party in its permanent daydreaming and irresponsible permutations, it is advisable to be more discerning, to be able to absorb the shock of their impending devastating defeat.

“It’s also laughable. Nigerians stopped taking PDP seriously before now with its intransigent crisis, which is a clear reflection of poor leadership and ability to manage its affairs.”

Oladejo also said the PDP cannot “lay claim to integrity, hope and vision”.

“It’s certainly not enough to dream of winning a certain number of states. The reality on ground is in total contrast,” he added.

“Lagos State remains an impenetrable fortress for PDP, with its more than two decades of electoral abysmal performance.”

Oladejo added that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos governor, has earned his place and preference by well-meaning Lagos residents, to consolidate on the “landmark achievements” of his first term.

According to him, the PDP, at whatever level, does not constitute a threat to APC in Lagos and at the federal level.

“Nigeria will certainly not go back to the years of the locust,” he said.

“In any electoral process, talk is cheap, but the real language of communication is the PVC. The PDP has no reason to be hopeful.”
