Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IE) says its offices are temporarily closed due to the nationwide strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress.

The DisCo, in a statement on its social media platform on Wednesday, urged customers to use electronic payment platforms for transactions due to the development.

This, IE said, is to ensure uninterrupted power services.

The DisCos’  announcement comes amid the ongoing strike by the organised labour unions.

“In light of the current indefinite strike action by NLC/TUC, a number of our business offices are temporarily inaccessible,” IE said.

“We encourage you to utilize our electronic payment channels for your transactions to ensure uninterrupted service.”

On Tuesday, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) embarked on a nationwide strike.

Festus Osifo, the TUC president, while speaking with reporters on Monday, said the strike would remain until “government at all levels wake up to their responsibilities”.

The nationwide strike is a protest against the alleged brutality meted on Joe Ajaero, NLC president, in Imo state on November 1.

Several unions and organisations across the country had joined the strike, including the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE).

However, the industrial action did not disrupt the supply of power across the country as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) assured that there would be no national blackout due to the ongoing industrial action.
