A 300-level student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo state has been shot dead.

Odulami Ibukun, spokesperson of the state’s police command, told TheCable that the shooting happened on Sunday.

Details about the murder are still sketchy but police say an investigation has commenced on the matter.

It is understood that the student, identified as Emmanuel Oladele, was shot at an off-campus residence in the university’s host community.

The case is the latest in a series of tragedies that have hit Nigerian campuses in recent weeks.

In June, Ayandare Modupe, a 500-level student of agronomy at AAUA, was found dead in a suspected suicide case.

Adekolore Idowu Glory, a University of Benin graduate who was processing her documents, was also murdered after being raped.

In early July, suspected cultists disrupted an exam to lynch a final-year student at Tai Solarin University (TASUED) in Ogun state.

The Benue State Polytechnic’s acting rector Emmanuel Barki was also abducted and asked to pay N70 million in ransome.
