The management of the Federal University of Lafia, Nasarawa state, says the four students of the institution who were abducted by gunmen on January 13 have been released.

TheCable had reported that the students were kidnapped at Mararaba, a community close to the institution’s campus, on Thursday night.

Abubakar Ibrahim, head of the university’s public relations unit, confirmed the release of the students in a statement on Sunday.

He said the institution ensured that the students underwent medical checks after their release in the late hours of Saturday.

Ibrahim said Shehu Abdul-Rahman, the vice-chancellor of the university, expressed gratitude to the security agencies, state government and the public for their contributions to the safe return of the students.

“Consequently, upon their release, the students have undergone medical checks and they were all found to be in good condition to immediately resume their studies,” he said.

He urged students to go about their normal activities, and assured parents and the public of the institution’s commitment to the safety of lives and property.
