Three suicide bombers on Wednesday killed themselves after they were intercepted by members of the civilian joint task force (JTF) in the Molai area of Maiduguri, capital of Borno state.

The security operatives were said to have sighted them immediately they moved out of the tricycle which brought them to the area.

Victor Isuku, police spokesman, confirmed the incident, saying normalcy had been restored in the area.

“In the process, they hurriedly detonated IED strapped to their bodies, killing themselves only. There was no civilian casualty recorded. Police EOD teams were promptly drafted to the scene to sanitise the area, and restore normalcy.”

Although Boko Haram has renewed its attacks in Borno, Lucky Irabor, outgoing theatre commander of operation Lafiya Dole, said the group no longer pose any threat.

Irabor said a large number of the insurgents were repelled and taken out before any attack.
