Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa, has donated his country house at Bamaina village, in Birninkudu LGA of the state, to Jigawa State University.

In a statement on Friday, Mansur Ahmed, Lamido’s media aide, said the structure would be used as the Institute for Islamic Studies and Research of the university.

Lamido said he built the house with the intention to donate it to a cause after the expiration of his tenure as state governor.

He also promised to upgrade the house with additional structures befitting a research centre.

Reacting to the statement, Bala Ibrahim, the secretary to the Jigawa state government, commended the former governor for his gesture, and described him “as a patriotic citizen who has passion for the development of Jigawa and the country at large”.

Attahiru Jega, former chair of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also lauded Lamido for his educational initiatives in the state and beyond.
