Supporters of Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa state who is currently on trial for alleged N1.3 billion fraud and money laundering, thronged the Aminu Kano international airport on Thursday morning to welcome him.
Lamido, initially denied bail by a federal high court sitting in Kano, has been released from prison following a successful application for bail in Abuja.
His supporters arrived the airport in their hundreds as early as 6am singing songs of solidarity and insinuating that the trial is politically motivated.
Aviation security initially barred journalists from covering of Lamido’s return to Kano on his way to Jigawa.
