Sultan attends Oxford Islamic summit, urges Africans to embrace peace, dialogue

Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has urged Africans to embrace peace and dialogue for social harmony and peaceful coexistence to thrive.

Abubakar spoke on Friday at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, England, where he is attending a two-day summit alongside other Muslim leaders from around the world.

The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is aimed at promoting interfaith dialogue, inter-civilisational understanding, Islamic finance, environmental issues, fellowships, scholarships, and the growth of Muslim youths in Britain.

The summit also coincided with the centre’s 40th anniversary and included an annual general meeting of the centre’s board of trustees.

King Charles, the centre’s grand patron, declared the event open on Thursday.

Attendees included Abdullah Gul, former Turkish president; Turki Al Faisal, Saudi prince; and Sultan Nazrin Shah.

In a statement issued on Friday, Danladi Bako, a member of Abubakar’s delegation, said the monarch enjoined citizens of the world in general and Africa in particular to embrace peace and dialogue to engender social harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Bako said the Sultan premised his message on the foundation of Islam as a religion of peace.

Abubakar was also accompanied on the trip by Kabir Aminu Tafida, his Sarkin Fada.
