Sumonu Kusamotu, prince of Ikirun, dies at 89

Sumonu Olayiwola Kusamotu, a prince from Ikirun, Osun state, is dead. 

According to a family source, he died on Friday night at the age of 89.

Sumonu was the son of Kusamotu Oyewole II, who was the Akinrun of Ikirun.

He was raised by his mother, Adeoti, after his father passed away when he was a child.

His great grandfather, Aliyu Oyewole, was the first town monarch to adopt Islam.

The deceased attended Abeokuta Boys Grammar School, Ogun state. He was the first lawyer from Ikirun and was among the first set of lawyers that attended the Nigerian Law School.

He also attended the University of London’s London School of Economics and was called to the bar in England’s Inner Temple.

He is survived by his wife, five children, sisters and brothers.

He will be buried on Saturday (today) according to Islamic rites.
