Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, says the ministry will work with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to close the gap of youth unemployment in the country.

According to a statement issued by Ramon Balogun, assistant director of information at the ministry, Dare said this at a send-off organised in his honour by the NCC at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Dare said the ministry will explore a viable working partnership with the NCC “to alleviate a quantum of at least 7 to 10 million Nigerian youths out of unemployment”.

The minister said the ministry would do this through knowledge-based application of digital skills in apps and programming.

He said other ways by which technology can be used to enhance capacity building of the youth for self-employment and start-ups entrepreneurship would be explored and considered.

Umar Dambatta, executive vice-chairman of the NCC, praised the intellectual contributions and qualities of Dare.

The statement said an award of recognition was also given to the minster by Dambatta.
