Ahead of the 2018 World Cup, a number of Super Eagles players in the provisional list of coach Gernot Rohr are battling with injuries.

The situation comes as the team prepares for the friendly match against Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday.

FC Porto defender Chidozie Awaziem, Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, Bursaspor defender William Troost-Ekong and Torino’s Joel Obi are fighting to be fit.

Moses Simon, KAA Gent winger, is the latest name on the Super Eagles’ injury list, and it is feared that he may miss the World Cup.

Simon reportedly suffered a thigh injury in training on Thursday.

He was on the sidelines as the team trained inside the Shell Residential Area in Port Harcourt, Rivers, on Sunday.

A source close to Simon told TheCable that the Gent player aggravated the injury he had close to the end of the season.

“Simon told me he was okay when he left Belgium but aggravated the injury while in Uyo,” the source said.

“The medics told him he’ll be ruled out for like three and half weeks or four.

“It’s so sad that he will miss out on the final list to Russia after putting in such a performance during qualifiers.”

Simon played a key role as Nigeria navigated their way past Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia in the qualifying series.

He scored a goal against Cameroon in Yaounde as the Super Eagles drew 1-1 with the Indomitable Lions.

After facing Congo, the Super Eagles will play Czech, Serbia, and England before the World Cup begins.
