Some members of Nigeria’s Super Falcons squad have returned to the country after their exit from the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The Falcons were dumped out of the WWC on Monday following a 4-2 loss on penalties to the Lionesses. Nigeria performed spiritedly against the European champions, forcing the game into extra time and a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

Following the World Cup exit, a few players from the squad have returned to the country.

The players landed at the Muritala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, on Wednesday evening.

The players include Asisat Oshoala, Rasheedat Ajibade, Osinachi Ohale, Tochukwu Oluehi, Gift Monday, Rofiat Imuran and Chiamaka Nnadozie.

FIFPro, the world players’ union, earlier appealed to the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to pay the Super Falcons their outstanding monies.

The world umbrella body for professional football players said the Falcons are “extremely frustrated” and are ready to pursue the NFF for their allowances.

Each player on the Super Falcons squad is expected to receive $60,000 as match bonuses for qualifying for the World Cup round of 16.

Remi Tinubu, the wife of the president, also promised the team a heroic welcome upon their return to the country.
