Four-time champions Senegal defeated Nigeria 2-0 on penalties following a 4-4 stalemate after regulation and extra time.

The first game of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) took place in Egypt on Saturday.

Nigeria, two-time champions, took the fight to the Senegalese but the West African team refused to bow to the firepower of the Supersand Eagles.

Emeka Ogbonna was among the goalscorers for the Eagles, while Fayowole Egan-Osi added one and Taiwo Adams netted in with a brace.

Ogbonna was voted the most valuable player of the CAF Beach Soccer AFCON hosted by Nigeria in December 2016.

The Supersand Eagles will face their counterparts from Libya on Sunday.

Their last group match against Tanzania on Monday starts 1.30pm Nigeria time.
