Ibrahim Bomai, senator of the All Progressives Congress  (APC), has been re-elected to represent Yobe south district.

Abatcha Melemi, returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result in Potiskum on Saturday.

Melemi said the senator polled 69,596 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Halilu Mazagane of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 68,885 votes.

The returning officer declared Bomai as the winner of the election for Yobe south.

Melemi, refusing to entertain questions, told journalists that his mandate was just to declare the winner.

In February, the electoral body declared the election in Yobe south senatorial district inconclusive.

According to Shettima Saidu, returning officer in the state, votes in Manawaci 003 polling unit in Fika LGA were cancelled due to irregularities including over-voting.

Also, valid votes surpassed the total number of accredited voters in the unit, hence, the reason for today’s supplementary election.
