Bola Tinubu, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says his backing of Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the Lagos state governorship ticket of the party “remains unchanged”.

Tunde Rahman, Tinubu’s media adviser, made this known in a statement issued on Monday.

According to The Nation, the statement was put out after Tinubu met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja.

He was quoted as saying: “Asiwaju Tinubu and Chief Bisi Akande were invited by President Buhari and it turned out to be a good and productive meeting. Asiwaju was quite pleased to have conferred with the President who has always shown himself to be a committed party member and a true democrat.

“Just like the President, he is looking forward to a good and credible primary that is peaceful and free of rancor. As previously stated, Asiwaju plans to vote in this primary and his position regarding the relative merits of the candidates remains unchanged.”

Akinwunmi Ambode, governor of Lagos, will face Sanwo-Olu in the primary election on Tuesday.

The governor on Sunday addressed a press conference, saying his opponent is unfit for the job he is being propelled to do.

Ambode also alleged that Sanwo-Olu was once arrested for spending fake dollars at a nightclub in the US.

In a statement released after Ambode’s press conference, Tinubu knocked the governor’s performance, saying Lagos has experienced deviations from “enlightened governance” in recent times.
