The supreme court upheld the elections of Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo state governor; Ifeanyi Okowa, his Delta state counterpart; and Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe on Tuesday.

The seven-man panel, which heard the three election cases, said explanations for the judgments would be given on February 15.

In Delta, Emehor Otega of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Great Ogboru of Labour Party, asked the court to set aside the verdict of the election tribunal and appeal court, which ruled in favour of Okowa.

Emehor’s petition was dismissed for lacking merit.

Rasheed Ladoja of Accord Party also challenged Ajimobi’s election in Oyo, while Adamu Waziri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opposed the election of Gaidam.

Like in Delta, Mary Odili, who delivered the lead judgement in Yobe, dismissed Waziri’s petition for lacking in merit.

Meanwhile, Ladoja has congratulated Ajimobi on his victory and called on his supporters to join hands with the current administration.

In a statement issued by Lanre Latinwo, his media aide, the former governor said the apex court judgment had brought the electoral process to an end.
