Five students were abducted by suspected cultists in the early hours of Monday, in the Rumuche/Rumuohia community of Emohua LGA, Rivers state.

According to Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers police command, about five armed men stormed an isolated part of the community around 2:30am, opened fire, and took the students to an unknown location.

“On 2nd December 2025 at about 0230hrs, a group of suspected cultists, numbering about five, attacked an isolated area in Rumuche/Rumuohia community, Emohua Local Government Area,” the statement reads.

The spokesperson said the police have launched an investigation and efforts are ongoing to rescue the students.

Olugbenga Adepoju, the commissioner of police, accompanied by other service commanders, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment shortly after the report was received.

The CP has directed the area commander, all tactical units, and the joint task force to intensify efforts to rescue the victims safely and arrest the perpetrators.

He said every suspect connected to the crime will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law, adding that residents should remain calm and volunteer credible information that could assist the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, sources close to the matter said the abducted students are from the Emohua satellite campus of the Rivers State University (RSU).

Last week, students living off-campus staged protests over repeated cult attacks, urging the school management to relocate them to the main campus in Port Harcourt for their safety.
