Sylvester Oromoni: Lagos coroner to meet Falana over request for inquest

Sylvester Oromoni: Lagos coroner to meet Falana over request for inquest

Femi Falana, human rights lawyer, has been invited to meet with a Lagos coroner following his request for an inquest into the death of Sylvester Oromoni.

Dowen College, situated in Lekki, Lagos, has been in the eye of the storm since the demise of the 12-year-old boy.

Oromoni’s father had told TheCable that his child was beaten and fed a liquid chemical.

But the school dismissed the claim, alleging that he sustained injuries while playing football with his colleagues.

His death sparked courage on social media, resulting in the shutdown of the school by the state government.

Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos police commissioner, had earlier ordered an investigation while the school was sealed.

On Monday, Falana called for a coroner’s inquest into the circumstances surrounding Oromoni’s demise.

Responding to his request, Mikail Olukayode Kadiri, the coroner for Epe District, called for a meeting.

He said the preliminary meeting would hold at the combined high court and magistrate court of Lagos state, Epe.

“I have the directive of the chief coroner of Lagos state, Honourable Justice M.A. Dada, to act on your request,” the letter addressed to Falana reads in part.

“You are hereby invited to a preliminary meeting scheduled to hold as follows: Wednesday, 15 December 2021.”

Before his death, Oromoni had named five students who he claimed attacked him in his room.

Three of them have been grilled by the Lagos state police command.
