Aminu Tambuwal, speaker of the house of representatives, will preside over the sittings of the house for the last time on Wednesday.

Tambuwal, who is the governor-elect of Sokoto state, would preside over a valedictory session of the house, after which he would stand down.

“He will preside over the house tomorrow in a valedictory session. For the last time,” Imam Imam, spokesman of Tambuwal, said in response to an enquiry from TheCable.

The speaker had earlier told journalists after the sitting of the house on Tuesday that he would cease to be speaker after his inauguration as governor of Sokoto state on May 29.

“My stay here in the house would have effectively come to an end on May 29, after I would have been inaugurated as governor,” he said.

“We have to avoid any possible issues on this, since the constitution is silent on what happens when a sitting speaker has to move to another office,”

Emeka Ihedioha, deputy speaker of the house, is expected to step into the shoes of Tambuwal as speaker.

Tambuwal will be remembered for his ability to hold the house together in the face of divergent interest.
