Taraba records three more deaths from market explosion

Three more people have been confirmed dead following the explosion that occurred in Iware market.

On Tuesday, an explosion suspected to have been caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) occurred at a local drinking spot within the Iware market axis in Ardo Kola LGA of the state.

As of Tuesday evening, three persons were confirmed dead, while 19 persons sustained injuries in the incident.

Speaking with TheCable on Wednesday, Usman Abdullahi, spokesman of the Taraba police command, said three more deaths had been recorded.

He added that security operatives are on the hunt for the perpetrators, while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Communities in Taraba have come under attack in recent weeks, with killings and abductions recorded.

On April 11, gunmen attacked a mosque in Maisamari community in Sardauna LGA of Taraba and killed Abdulkadir Sufiyanu, the district head.

Prior to the attack on the mosque in Maisamari, some residents were kidnapped when gunmen invaded a mosque in Bali Jali village of Taraba state.

Muslim worshippers were breaking their fast when the attack in Bali Jali occurred.
