The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it is not responsible for the power outage in several Abuja neighbourhoods, contrary to claims by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
On Wednesday, the AEDC said the outage in areas such as Dilic Hotel, Prime Plaza, Exclusive Stores, Gilmore, Takwa Crescent, and Former Zartech in the federal capital territory (FCT) was caused by a “technical fault” from the transmission company.
The distribution company also stated that the National Pension Commission (PenCom) and the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) were affected, noting that the “TCN is working to resolve the fault and restore power supply as quickly as possible”.
However, in a statement on Thursday, Ndidi Mbah, spokesperson for TCN, denied the claim.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) informs the public that the power outage affecting Dilic Hotel, Prime Plaza, Exclusive Stores, PENCOM, AMCON, Gilmore, Takwa Crescent, Former Zartech, and its environ is NOT due to a technical fault from TCN, contrary to Abuja Distribution Company (AEDC)’s claim,” Mbah said.
“TCN’s feeders serving these areas are not in any way experiencing outages. For emphasis, TCN’s feeders serving these areas are functioning normally, contrary to AEDC’s claim.”
The cause of the outage remains unclear, as both companies maintain conflicting positions.
