‘Terrorists’ attack military base in Yobe, kill soldier
A soldier has been confirmed dead after suspected terrorists attacked a military base on Saturday night in Gujba town, Gujba LGA, Yobe state.
Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson of the police command in Yobe, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Sunday.
Also, a resident in the community told TheCable that the suspected terrorists stormed the town at about midnight.
The source said the assailants were shooting sporadically before attacking the military base but were repelled by the troops.
The source added that vehicles were torched by the suspected terrorists, noting that a soldier was killed.
He said a vigilante was also injured during the firefight that ensued.
The attack is coming less than two weeks after 17 military personnel on a peace mission were killed in Delta state.
Those killed included a lieutenant colonel, two majors, one captain, and 13 soldiers.
