‘That’s how they fleece government’ — reactions to Oyo ‘ghost workers’ scandal
The social media has been rife with varying reactions over allegations of employment of ghost workers in Oyo state.
Ayobami Agboola (pictured), son of Amidat Agboola, Oyo state head of civil service, was accused of failing to include the name of an acquaintance in a list of “ghost workers” in the state.
Ghost workers, a common practice among public office holders, refers to a list of people on the government payroll who are not physically present to do the actual work.
Sulaimon Adesola, a “social media influencer” said to have been involved in the campaign team of Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, accused Agboola of promising to use his influence to help include his name on the “list”, but he failed to do so.
Adesola also backed up his claim with screenshots of messages they exchanged.
In his defence, Agboola claimed that he didn’t really have any ghost worker slot, as he just made the comment lightheartedly.

This #ghostworkers think isn’t new. Some people typing about the topic are drawing monies from govt they have never showed up to earn. Parents in Govt put up names of their children in slots they will never work at. So how can you justify hard work to such a person?
